Organic Quinoa Planting Instructions:
1. When to Plant: Plant in late spring once the soil has warmed to about 60°F. Quinoa needs a long season, but it likes the temperatures to stay below 90°F during the flowering stage.
2. Preparation: Select a sunny location. Quinoa isn't picky about soil but does best in well-draining earth with a bit of compost.
3. Sowing: Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep. Keep the area weeded while the seedlings are small, as they can look a bit like common weeds when they first sprout!
4. Care: Once established, quinoa is very water-efficient. Thin the plants to about a foot apart to allow the large seed heads room to develop and breathe.
5. Pests and Diseases: Birds are your biggest competition for the grain! Harvest when the seeds are hard and can't be dented with a fingernail, and the plants have lost most of their leaves.
