HEAVY-DUTY 4-MIL HOMESTEAD SHIELD! Ditch the flimsy, paper seed packets that rip open the second they get wet or slowly choke your seeds by letting ambient humidity seep inside! At The Seed Guy®, we believe every single premium individual packet deserves maximum security. That is why our individual varieties are hand-packed exclusively in ultra-rugged, Heavy-Duty 4-Mil Moisture-Barrier Ziplocks (never cheap 2-mil plastic or paper). This short-term field defense repels wet garden fingers, morning dew, and accidental spills right out in the dirt. Planning for the future? Because our 4-mil ziplocks lock out destructive oxygen and humidity fluctuations, these individual packets are perfectly engineered for long-term storage. Simply drop these heavy-duty packets inside a secondary dark Mylar container with an oxygen absorber, store them in a cool location, and you have a bulletproof, decades-ready survival seed bank! Spearmint Planting Instructions:
1. When to Plant: Spearmint can be started indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost or sown directly into the garden once the soil has warmed in the spring. As a hardy perennial, it can handle cooler temperatures once established.
2. Preparation & Container Control: Mint thrives in moist, well-drained soil and prefers full sun to partial shade. To enjoy the benefits of mint without it taking over your garden, we highly recommend planting it in large containers or "sinking" a pot directly into the garden soil with the rim 1-2 inches above the surface. This keeps the aggressive roots contained while allowing the aromatic oils to guard your vegetables.
3. Sowing: Spearmint seeds are tiny and require light to germinate. Gently press the seeds onto the surface of the soil but do not cover them with dirt. Keep the soil consistently moist (but not soggy) during the germination period.
4. Watering and Care: Mint loves water. Ensure the soil stays moist, especially during the heat of summer. For a bushier plant with more leaves, pinch off the tips of the stems regularly. This prevents the plant from getting "leggy" and encourages fresh new growth.
5. Harvesting: You can begin harvesting leaves as soon as the plant is 4-6 inches tall. For the most potent flavor, harvest in the morning after the dew has dried but before the sun is at its peak. Spearmint leaves can be used fresh, frozen in ice cubes, or dried for long-term storage.
6. The Ultimate Companion Plant: Place your pots of Spearmint near Cabbage, Broccoli, Tomatoes, and Carrots. The strong aromatic oils act as a natural "smokescreen" that confuses pests like cabbage moths, aphids, and flea beetles, keeping your garden healthier and more productive!
