Providing Quality Heirloom & Non-GMO Seeds Since 2012
(100% Non-GMO, Heirloom)
Bring the flavors of Italy to your table with the highest quality Long Purple Eggplant seeds. Known for its elegant, club-shaped fruits and vibrant purple color, this heirloom has been a favorite of Mediterranean gardeners for generations. Unlike the large, round varieties found in grocery stores, the Long Purple produces slender fruits that reach 8 to 10 inches in length. At The Seed Guy, we recommend this variety because it is incredibly productive and matures earlier than many other eggplants, making it a reliable choice for gardeners with shorter growing seasons.
In the garden, the Long Purple Eggplant grows into a sturdy, upright plant reaching about 24 to 30 inches in height. The fruits are prized by chefs for their thin, tender skin and creamy, mild flesh that contains very few seeds. Because the skin is so delicate, there is no need to peel it before cooking—simply slice and sauté, grill, or use it in a classic Eggplant Parmesan. At The Seed Guy, our seeds are tested for elite germination and high-yielding vigor, ensuring your garden stays packed with these beautiful "neon" purple heirlooms all summer long.

Long Purple Eggplant Planting Instructions:
1. When to Plant: Eggplants are heat-lovers. Start seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost. Do not transplant into the garden until the soil is consistently warm (at least 70°F) and night temperatures stay above 60°F.
2. Preparation: Choose a site with full sun. Eggplants thrive in fertile, well-drained soil. Amend the area with plenty of organic matter before planting to provide the nutrients these plants crave.
3. Sowing: If starting indoors, sow seeds 1/4 inch deep in seed-starting mix. Provide plenty of light and keep the soil moist. When transplanting, space the plants 18-24 inches apart in rows 3 feet apart.
4. Watering and Care: Maintain consistent moisture, as uneven watering can lead to stunted growth. Mulching around the base of the plant will help keep the roots warm and retain moisture. For heavier fruit loads, you may want to use a small cage or stake for support.
5. Harvesting: Harvest Long Purple eggplants when they are 8 to 10 inches long and the skin is still shiny. If the skin becomes dull, the fruit is overripe. Use garden pruners to cut the fruit from the stem to avoid damaging the plant.
