Shop the highest quality Seven Top Turnip seeds for the variety that is grown exclusively for its legendary greens. When it comes to traditional southern cooking, Seven Top is the "Green Queen." Unlike other turnips, this heirloom focuses all its energy into producing lush, dark-green leaves rather than a large root. At The Seed Guy®, we believe we aren't just selling a packet of seeds; we are preserving a family tradition with the grandkids, passing down the art of slow-simmered greens with a "pot likker" that heals the soul, and the pride of a "County Fair Quality" harvest right from your backyard.
In the garden, Seven Top is a vigorous producer that provides multiple harvests of tender, succulent leaves. This variety is the premier choice for anyone who wants to "get your steam on"—offering a rich, slightly peppery flavor that is a powerhouse of nutrition. It is a fantastic companion plant for onions and garlic, which help protect the tender greens from pests. At The Seed Guy®, our seeds are tested for elite germination, ensuring you get bountiful, leafy plants that keep your kitchen stocked with garden-fresh greens from early spring through the cool fall months.

Seven Top Turnip Planting Instructions:
1. When to Plant: Plant in early spring or late summer. Seven Top is incredibly hardy and can even survive light snowfalls in many climates.
2. Preparation: These plants love nitrogen! Prepare your bed with well-rotted manure or a nitrogen-rich compost to support the rapid leaf growth.
3. Sowing: Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep in rows 12-15 inches apart. Keep the area weed-free while the seedlings are small.
4. Care: Water regularly. If the plants get stressed, the leaves can become tough and bitter. You can harvest the entire plant or just snip the outer leaves for a "cut and come again" supply.
5. Pests and Diseases: Aphids can sometimes be attracted to the tender growth; a quick spray of soapy water usually clears them. Harvest when the leaves are 6-10 inches long for the best texture.
