Grow a piece of American history with the highest quality Reid's Yellow Dent Corn seeds. Developed in 1847 by Robert Reid, this variety became the most popular corn in the world for nearly a century. Known as the "King of the Corn Belt," it won the World's Fair Gold Medal in 1893 and remains the foundation of most modern corn hybrids today. At The Seed Guy®, we offer this pure heirloom because our premium corn seeds reids selection remains the gold standard for self-sufficient gardeners who want a versatile, heavy-producing corn that excels at making rich, yellow cornmeal and high-protein livestock feed.
In the garden, choosing our quality corn seeds reids packets delivers an impressive sight, with sturdy stalks reaching 7 to 10 feet tall. Selecting these open-pollinated corn seeds reids options produces large, 9-to-10-inch ears packed with 16 to 22 rows of deep, yellow kernels characterized by the classic "dent" on the top as they dry. Because it is a dent corn built for superior cornmeal silage production, it has a higher starch content than sweet corn, making purchasing these corn seeds reids stocks the premier choice for grinding into flour, grits, and cornmeal. At The Seed Guy®, our seeds are tested for elite germination and high-yielding vigor, ensuring your homestead can produce the same reliable harvests that built the American frontier.

Reid's Yellow Dent Corn Planting Instructions:
1. When to Plant: Reid's Yellow Dent is a long-season variety. Sow seeds directly into the garden once the soil has warmed to at least 65°F and all danger of frost has passed. Ensure you have a long enough growing season for the kernels to fully dry on the stalk.
2. Preparation: Field corn is a "heavy feeder." For maximum ear size, work significant amounts of compost or aged manure into the soil. Full sun and well-drained soil are essential for the tall, heavy stalks to develop properly.
3. Sowing: For successful pollination, plant in blocks of at least 4 to 6 rows. Sow seeds 1 to 2 inches deep and space them 10-12 inches apart. Rows should be spaced 30-36 inches apart to allow for airflow and easy harvesting.
4. Thinning and Care: Once seedlings are 4 inches tall, thin to the strongest plants. Dent corn requires consistent moisture during the silking and tasseling stage to ensure the ears are filled to the tip. Avoid nitrogen-heavy fertilizers too late in the season to prevent lodging (stalks falling over).
5. Harvesting: For cornmeal or feed, allow the ears to dry completely on the stalk. The husks should be brown and the kernels should be hard and "dented." For roasting (eating fresh), harvest earlier when the kernels are in the "milk stage," though it will be less sweet than traditional sweet corn varieties.
