It has been specially selected to produce thick-walled, 3-inch fruits much faster than standard varieties, making it the premier choice for gardeners in northern climates or anyone who simply can't wait for that first batch of homemade poppers.
In the garden, Early Jalapeno is a compact, highly productive plant that is perfect for small spaces or patio containers. In the kitchen, these peppers are the life of the party; whether you are slicing them for fresh nachos or dicing them for a zesty dip, our Early Jalapenos are the fastest way to "get your salsa on" with a home-grown flavor that store-bought peppers simply can't match. If left on the plant, they will ripen to a beautiful red, gaining a touch of sweetness alongside the spice. Early Jalapeno Pepper Planting Instructions:
1. When to Plant: Start indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost. Move outdoors only when night temperatures are reliably above 55°F.
2. Preparation: Jalapenos thrive in full sun and fertile soil. Mix in some aged compost before planting. If you are growing in pots, use a high-quality potting soil with good drainage.
3. Sowing: Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep. Use a heat mat to maintain a soil temperature of 80°F for the fastest and most uniform germination.
4. Care: Keep the soil consistently moist but not saturated. Mulching around the base of the plant will help regulate soil temperature and conserve moisture during the heat of summer.
5. Pests and Diseases: Watch for aphids on the tender new growth. A spray of soapy water usually does the trick. To prevent "pepper rot," ensure your plants have plenty of room for air to circulate between them.
