Shop the highest quality Cayenne Pepper seeds (Long Red Slim) for a variety that brings the heat and the flavor to every dish. When it comes to a classic "all-purpose" hot pepper, Cayenne is the "Kitchen Essential." This heirloom variety is world-renowned for its long, slender, 5-to-6-inch fruits that pack a significant punch without being overwhelming. At The Seed Guy®, we recommend this variety because it is the premier choice for gardeners who want to make their own crushed red pepper flakes, hot sauces, or therapeutic medicinal tinctures.
In the garden, the Cayenne Pepper plant is a prolific producer, often becoming covered in dozens of peppers that transition from green to a vibrant, fiery red. The pods are thin-walled, which makes them the perfect candidate for air-drying right on the kitchen counter. It is a fantastic companion plant for onions and marigolds, which can help deter pests while the Cayenne works its magic. At The Seed Guy®, our seeds are tested for elite germination, ensuring you get vigorous plants that provide a heavy harvest of pungent peppers to spice up your life all year long.

Cayenne Pepper Planting Instructions:
1. When to Plant: Start seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost. These plants love heat, so wait until the weather is settled and warm before moving them into the garden.
2. Preparation: Peppers prefer slightly acidic to neutral soil. Ensure your planting site is well-draining; peppers "hate" having wet feet. A handful of bone meal in the planting hole can help with fruit development.
3. Sowing: Sow 1/4 inch deep. Like all hot peppers, Cayenne seeds sprout best in warm soil (75-85°F). Keep the seed-starting mix moist but never soggy to prevent "damping off."
4. Care: Once the plants reach 6 inches, you can pinch off the top growing tip to encourage a bushier plant with more fruiting branches. Water deeply but allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings.
5. Pests and Diseases: Hornworms can occasionally find pepper plants; simply pick them off by hand. To avoid fungal issues, ensure good spacing between plants for airflow and avoid overhead watering in the evening.
