Sweet Banana Pepper Planting Instructions:
1. When to Plant: Start seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost. Transplant outdoors once the weather is warm and all danger of frost has passed.
2. Preparation: Peppers love phosphorus and potassium but can be stunted by too much nitrogen. Use a well-balanced compost and ensure the planting site gets at least 6-8 hours of direct sun daily.
3. Sowing: Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep. Keep the soil warm (75-80°F) to ensure the seeds "wake up" quickly. Keep the humidity high until the first set of true leaves appears.
4. Care: Sweet Banana peppers can become quite heavy with fruit. Providing a small cage or stake will prevent the branches from breaking during a summer storm or heavy harvest.
5. Pests and Diseases: Flea beetles can sometimes nibble small holes in the leaves of young plants; row covers can provide protection until the plants are larger. Avoid overhead watering to prevent leaf spot.
