Shop the highest quality Red Bowl Salad Lettuce seeds for a vibrant and healthy garden. If you want to take your salads from ordinary to extraordinary, Red Bowl is the "Top Dog." This stunning heirloom is prized for its deep, burgundy-red leaves that provide a spectacular contrast to green varieties. At The Seed Guy®, we recommend Red Bowl not just for its beauty, but for its health benefits—red lettuces are typically higher in antioxidants than their green counterparts. The flavor is mild, sweet, and incredibly refreshing, making it a favorite for children and gourmet chefs alike.
In the garden, Red Bowl is a vigorous and reliable performer. The plants form large, loose rosettes of frilly leaves that catch the light and the eye. It is a fantastic companion plant for basil and tomatoes, and it performs exceptionally well in both spring and fall gardens. Red Bowl is very slow to bolt and stays tender for a long period, allowing you to snip leaves as needed for a fresh, colorful bowl of greens every single day. At The Seed Guy®, our seeds are tested for elite germination and deep color saturation, ensuring your garden is packed with the richest reds of the season.

Red Bowl Salad Lettuce Planting Instructions:
1. When to Plant: Best grown in the cool of spring or fall. Sow 4 weeks before the last frost date in spring.
2. Preparation: Ensure soil is moist and crumbly. Add compost if the soil is sandy or heavy clay.
3. Sowing: Surface sow the seeds and barely cover with soil. Light is required for germination. Mist the area carefully.
4. Care: Red Bowl is quite hardy but benefits from consistent watering. To maintain the deep red color, ensure the plant receives adequate sunlight, though it can tolerate partial shade in hotter climates.
5. Pests and Diseases: Interestingly, the red pigment in Red Bowl often makes it less attractive to certain pests than green varieties! However, keep an eye out for cabbage loopers. If you notice small holes in the leaves, use an organic Neem oil spray. Ensure good spacing between plants to allow for airflow, which prevents rot in the dense, frilly rosettes.
