Southern Giant Curled Mustard Planting Instructions:
1. When to Plant: Best grown in the cool seasons of spring and fall. Sow 4-6 weeks before the last spring frost or 6-8 weeks before the first fall frost.
2. Preparation: Requires fertile, well-drained soil. Work in compost to ensure plenty of nitrogen for leafy growth.
3. Sowing: Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep. For a continuous harvest of young, tender leaves, sow a new row every 2 weeks.
4. Care: Keep soil consistently moist. If the soil dries out, the leaves can become excessively spicy. Thin plants to 6-12 inches to allow for full leaf expansion.
5. Pests and Diseases: Aphids and Flea Beetles can be attracted to the tender leaves. Use a strong spray of water or organic insecticidal soap if needed. To prevent leaf spot and downy mildew, water at the soil level and avoid getting the frilly leaves wet late in the day.
