Chioggia Beet – The Stunning Italian Heirloom with Spectacular "Candy-Cane" Stripes

If you want to grow a true showstopper in your garden rows, our premium beet seeds chioggia stock is an absolute necessity. Originating from the coastal town of Chioggia, Italy, in the mid-1800s, this historic variety is famous for its visual appeal. Known widely as the "Candy-Cane" or "Bull’s Eye" beet, choosing these open-pollinated beet seeds chioggia selections rewards you with unique, concentric rings of bright pinkish-red and pure white. At The Seed Guy, we love this heirloom because it isn't just a novelty; it is one of the sweetest and mildest types you can possibly plant.

Unlike some standard varieties that carry a heavy, earthy taste, our quality beet seeds chioggia plants are prized for their delicate flavor and the fact that they don't "bleed" as much as traditional red beets. The greens are also a hidden treasure—tender, delicious, and perfect for salads or sautéing. Any vegetable that can go from seed to table while providing both a stunning visual and incredible flavor is a gardener's dream, and selecting these beet seeds chioggia packets delivers on both fronts perfectly. Whether you slice them raw to show off the stripes in a gourmet summer salad or roast them to caramelize their natural sugars, they add unmatched elegance to your homestead plots.

    Chioggia Beet Planting Instructions:

    1. Timing: Beets are a cool-weather crop. Plant in full sun to partial shade as soon as the soil can be worked in the spring, or plant in late summer for a fall harvest.

    2. Sowing: Sow seeds 1/2 inch deep. Since each beet "seed" is actually a cluster of seeds, be prepared to thin the seedlings to 3-4 inches apart once they are a few inches tall.

    3. Care: Keep the soil consistently moist to ensure tender roots. If the soil dries out too much, the roots can become woody. Mulching helps retain moisture and keeps the soil cool.

    4. Harvesting: You can harvest the greens at any time. For the best flavor and internal color, harvest the beet roots when they are between 2 and 3 inches in diameter.

    5. Pests & Disease: Watch for leaf miners and aphids on the greens. To prevent scab or internal rot, ensure your soil has plenty of organic matter and maintain even watering throughout the season.
