Shop the highest quality German Giant Radish seeds for a harvest that defies all the rules. When it comes to a radish that refuses to get "hot" or "woody," German Giant is the "Gentle Giant." This specialty heirloom from Germany is famous for its ability to grow to the size of a baseball while remaining mild, sweet, and incredibly crisp. At The Seed Guy, we recommend this variety because it is the premier choice for gardeners who want to "get your crunch on" without the heavy "bite" found in other large varieties.
In the garden, German Giant is a remarkably hardy plant that is less prone to "bolting" (going to seed) than other radishes. The roots are round, bright red, and look like beautiful ornaments sitting in the soil. It is a fantastic companion plant for squash and pumpkins, as it can help occupy the space between the larger plants while they are still small. At The Seed Guy, our seeds are tested for elite germination, ensuring you get heavy yields of jumbo-sized roots that stay succulent and firm, making them the ultimate slicing radish for sandwiches and party trays.

German Giant Radish Planting Instructions:
1. When to Plant: Sow in early spring as soon as the ground is workable. For a fall crop, sow in late August. These giants love the cool, damp earth of the early and late seasons.
2. Preparation: Deep, loose soil is a must for these baseball-sized roots. If your soil is compacted, the roots will be stunted. Work in compost or peat moss to create a "fluffy" bed for the giants to grow.
3. Sowing: Sow seeds 1/2 inch deep. Give them plenty of elbow room! Space seeds 3 inches apart to allow the roots to reach their full, massive potential.
4. Care: Regular watering is essential for the "German Giant" to maintain its mild flavor. If the plant gets thirsty, it will get spicy! Mulching the row helps keep the soil cool and moist.
5. Pests and Diseases: Aphids can sometimes target the greens; a quick spray with a garden hose is usually enough. Harvest these anytime from the size of a marble to the size of a baseball—they stay delicious at every stage!
