Little Marvel Pea Planting Instructions:
1. When to Plant: These peas love the crisp air! Sow outdoors as soon as the soil can be worked in the spring. They can handle a light frost and actually prefer the cool dampness of early spring over the summer heat.
2. Preparation: Select a spot with full sun. While Little Marvel is a bush pea, it appreciates soil that is rich in organic matter. Work in a little compost before planting to ensure the roots have plenty of "fuel" for that early-season sprint.
3. Sowing: Sow seeds 1 inch deep and space them 2 inches apart. To give your seeds a "head start," soak them in room-temperature water for 12 hours before planting to soften the outer shell and trigger faster germination.
4. Care: Even though these stay short, a 1-foot-tall support or "pea brush" (twigs stuck in the ground) helps keep the pods clean and prevents the vines from falling over during heavy rains. Water at the base of the plant to keep the leaves dry.
5. Pests and Diseases: Keep an eye out for aphids as the weather warms up. Harvest the pods as soon as they feel plump and full—the more you harvest, the longer the plant will try to produce new pods for you.
